Manilva lies on the southernwestern edge of Malaga province, next to the border with Cadiz. The town is separated into two areas, the seaside retreat, and the white-washed mountainous village 3 kilometres up from the coast.
The Manilva village itself, borders fascinating vineyards of the Moscatel Grapes, prominent in the making of sweet dessert wines. On the coastal area, Manilva has maintained its small village mentality, and a conservation view on excessive developments.
Malaga is located 97 kilometres away from the village, therefore the airport of Gibraltar is closer. Although the urbanisations of Estepona, Sabinillas, and Puerto Duquesa are all within a few minutes drive.
The town also has a fascinating history springing from the Roman times, even to this day, there are some well-preserved Roman sulphur baths in the area. Although if you want to take advantage of these health-giving waters, you must be prepared to dive into a subterranean cavern and to deal with the smell of sulphur on your swimwear!
In the village there is also a fascinating 17th century church, and at the foothill of the village, there are two pieces of aqueduct remaining. The beaches in Manilva are considered to be some of the best on the Costa del Sol. Despite this they remain somewhat uncrowded during the summer season.
